Once upon a time there were these two octopuses, or octopi, I’m not sure.
One was called Dr. Ronx and one was called Dr. Xand, sorry Dr. Chris!
The two octopuses were also twin brothers, and also best friends, and in case you were wondering they also had 8 legs each.
Eight legs each ….that’s …..how many more than you or I have? Well a lot.
Anyway these beautiful two twin brothers were spending some time at home during lock down.
They would have occasional visits to the park, or a rather scary bump and tumble down the stairs when they were actually being used as bowling balls! Their favourite place of all, the place where all the adventures really happened was in the bedroom.
The little boy who was lucky enough to look after our two twin brothers was a special young chap. He had one mummy and one daddy, and one spare brother. No dogs, no cats. Probably some worms and birds in the garden.
Little boy liked his bed time. Bath, milk, story and bed. Lights out and then into dream land.
Mum and dad used to make story and bed so much fun:
Mum rolled the boy up in his towel like a lady, or a sausage, or a ghost….
Dad would tickle him so hard he’d laugh for days on end.
Each night would end with a kiss and a hug. A very lucky boy.
One cold January night, after the bath, and the milk, and the story, and the kiss and the hug, and ever after lights out; little boy, Dr. Ronx and Dr. Xand decided they would have an amazing adventure of their own.
Dressed in his best pj’s, plus his spider man dressing gown like a cape the little boy leapt into action. “Here we gooooooooooooooo” as he reached for Dr. Ronx and Dr. Xand …grabbing a leg each.
Swinging them round and round being careful not to let go, Dr. Xand started to feel a bit dizzy, Dr. Ronx was screaming “yayayayaay this is soooo much fun”. And then the spinning stopped.
Where were they now? They were now in a dark crater right on the bright side of the moon. “ How did we get here” Dr Ronx asked.
“Well I spinned and spinned and spinned and spinned us and well here we are” said little boy.
The moon was bright, and white, and smooth but also craggly and the air was crisp and cool. They weren’t floating away like they tell you in all those books about space because this was just a make believe adventure and in our make believe adventure you don’t need astro suits for the moon.
“RRRRRROooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrr”
“I wonder who that was making all that racket?” the little boy cried, with an equal measure half and half of fear and excitement.
“Let’s go find out!” he decided as he grabbed on to the twins by different legs this time. They had finally recovered from all the spinning. The trekked up the side of the crater, good job the little boys Dad loves climbing mountains as the little boy had strong powerful legs.
As they peeped their heads over the top you cannot believe what they saw. Or can you? What do you think it was?
Well let me tell you.
Aliens. And also Dinosaur. And Zebras. Ice Creams. Pizzas. Planets. Talking ducks. Ancient Egyptians, unicorns, dragons, elephants, dogs, worms…..the list could go on.
It was like an amazing market place with all these creatures and people and things mixing up together.
Dr Ronx and Dr Xand could not believe their 4 eyes and 16 legs, they had never ever seen anything like this before in their whole entire lives.
“Come on you two, this is where I like to hang out”.
“We need to find out who made that loud sound and see if we can help them”. Sounded like a good idea to the Dr’s who were by the way very excellent at helping people out. Although they didn’t know much about aliens and dinosaurs.
“RRRROOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR” there was that sound again, from the far edge of the market.
At blazing fast speed the little boy ran over, dragging the Dr’s in the ground a little but they didn’t mind.
Sitting at the edge of the market was a T-Rex, you know the BIG SCARY one from all the dino stories and books. He was crying out loud and all alone.
“what’s up” asked the little boy.
“I don’t belong here in this place and I miss my mummies. I’ve seen unicorns, and flying fish, and talking ducks but I’ve not seen a single T-Rex so that means I don’t belong here”.
“Hm” the little boy looked around. It was true he didn’t see any other T-Rex in the market place, but he did see a lot of other things.
“Well”, said the little boy, “I also don’t see any other little boys here, and yet I know I belong”.
You see this place, inside little boys imagination, the market on the moon, was a place for everyone. It didn’t matter if you were an alien, or an ice cream, or a talking duck. It didn’t matter if you were stinky, or clean, fun or cheeky. In little boys imagination everyone could be together in one beautiful and happy place.
“Come on” said little boy, “let me show you around” he said to T Rex.
Dr Ronx and Dr Xand enjoyed being dragged along whilst little boy showed the T Rex around, they even found some other dino’s for him to share stories with, and you won’t believe it but T Rex made fast friends with a camel (which happened to be one of little boys most favourite animals).
Dr. Ronx and Dr. Xand felt happy in this place on the moon, where everyone just was.
They wished the places in real life could be like that and they knew just what they had to do.
They tugged on little boys arms and said “hey little boy, can we go home now”.
“Sure” little boy said as he knew he could come back here any time he wanted.
Round and round faster and faster they got until BOOM. They were back in little boys room.
Mum had just visited for her final night kiss and hug. She did that most nights.
In the morning when little boy woke up Dr Ronx and Dr. Xand told little boy how much they had enjoyed their adventure and they asked little boy to do a favour for them both?
“when you are in the world, little boy, remember it doesn’t matter if someone is a talking duck, an alien or an ancient Egyptian, all that matters is that we show the same love and kindness you showed T Rex last night!”.
“Got it” said little boy and charged off ready to wake up mum and dad.
And the twins knew that he had, and they knew that every little girl or little boy who grew up believing that what was in their imaginations could become real we just might have a chance.
